There are just some words that when mentioned
to those with uncompromising tastes effect visions of prestige, glamour
and unparalleled quality and service. For the fashion elite, it's Chanel;
for auto aficionados its Mercedes and for the international well-seasoned
traveler, it's the exquisite combination of two words
Four Seasons. With visions of gracious rooms, rolling landscapes and five star taste temptations, I traveled to the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Dallas at Las Colinas. Located just fifteen minutes from the Dallas Forth Worth Airport, this resplendent resort lives up to its honored name with panache. In addition to impeccably appointed rooms and villas, this Four Seasons Resort and Club is nestled between to two eighteen-hole championship golf courses and is home the PGA Byron Nelson Classic. Not only is the resort a golfer's heaven, but it also appeals to those in search of other sports activities with one of the most complete resort health clubs this fitness fanatic has seen on the continent. The Sports Club and Spa houses both indoor and outdoor tennis courts and jogging tracks, racquetball and squash courts, three glorious pools and a studio that offers specialty classes such as yoga, a variety of aerobics, spinning and martial arts. The gym, which spans a spacious 6,000 square feet, offers a large selection the latest in training equipment and free weights that will inspire even the most sedentary guest. After a round of golf or a session with personal trainer at the gym, you'll want to reward yourself with a visit to the resort's spa - a heavenly tranquil oasis where you'll emerge relaxed, rejuvenated and glowing. The extensive spa menu lists a variety of a la carte, days and weekend packages, including massage, facial, wrap and hydrotherapy as well as access to the spacious sauna and steam rooms. Between treatments, be sure to enjoy a healthy spa lunch poolside or in the spa lounge -- I highly recommend the generous fresh vegetable plate with strawberries and calming herbal tea. At the sunset
on a day filled with your choice of sports and spa activities, you'll be
ready to treat yourself in the finest indulgence that this Four Seasons
has to offer - dinner at Café on the Green. The energetic and innovative
chef Christof Syre who has designed an enticing menu of New American cuisine
infused with Asian influences runs this exquisite restaurant. His extensive
experience in Hong Kong can be seen not only in his unique preparation of
seafood, duck and beef, but also in his elegant yet minimalist presentation
of these dishes. And although you may be inclined to pass the desert menu
in such an athletic resort, I urge you to say yes to one of the delicious
confections created by award winning pastry chef Randy Gehman. Whether it's
the trio of crème brulees or the chocolate bombe, the artistic presentation
and combination of flavors all add up to calories judiciously spent.For culinary enthusiasts like myself, the Four Season Resort and Club offers guests a rare opportunity to learn cooking skills and techniques as well as experience a variety of wines from vineyards here and abroad. Set in the intimate surroundings of the Show Kitchen at Café on the Green, the monthly cooking classes include demonstrations and hands on instruction by Chefs Syre and Gheman followed by tasting portions of the featured cuisine. The Wine Dinner Series, also presented monthly, allows visiting wine makers to personally introduce and expand on the elements and characteristics of the selection of varietals paired with each course.
