Amongst the rolling hills of the Cote d’Azur are many jewels to covet, idyllic villages to discover, and delightful dining to savor. Truly the setting for life at a slower pace, the stunning area is equally adept to handle the demands of international film festivals and special events that fill the area to capacity. With world-class events comes the demand for top-notch accommodations, and one of our favorite picks for five-star luxury is Le Mas Candille.

Located between Cannes and Grasse, Le Mas Candille is in the picture-perfect medieval village of Mougin, situated on the rolling hills with a beautiful view to the valley below and surrounded by mature cypress trees and old olive groves.  At this distinct hotel an informal luxury prevails that is exclusively tranquil and classically elegant. Originally an 18th century “mas” or farmhouse, Le Mas Candille and Spa is beautifully landscaped, exceptionally charming, and perfectly modern

We checked into one of the six new villas located in the new extension, La Villas, just below Le Candille’s main terrace. The villa’s contemporary décor reflect the colors of summer and fall in Provence. In the large living room, natural wood and stone are used to bring the outdoors in, and the floor to ceiling windows and doors opening to private terraces frame the natural environment. The standard rooms and suite, all with private balconies, are reverently outfitted with the classical appointments of the Provencal heritage of this stunning area.

The landscaping is rich and delightful, and the gardens are designed to be colorful throughout the seasons. Flowers, fragrance, and modern sculptures await guests on their meandering. The spa pool, one of two at the hotel, is a secluded, natural shrub with flowering plants providing privacy on three sides. The fourth side is open to the view over treetops and beyond. Above the pool is yet another peaceful oasis: the hotel’s very own Shiseido Spa. The range of non-abrasive treatments, all-using the richly gently Shiseido products, are designed to clarify, relax, and restore both the mind and the body. This year, new exclusive spa treatments include the Yutaka Ritual and the Ultimate Candille Zen Treatment.

At Le Mas Candille’s Michelin star restaurant, the region’s tradition of gastronomic excellence is revered. “Chef celebre” Serge Gouloumes’ culinary notoriety is matched by his passion for cooking and artistic flair. Under his creative direction, Restaurant Candille is on the way to become one of the finest restaurants on the Cote d’Azure. Guests can choose to dine in the intimate and elegant dining room or to dine al fresco under the dappled moonlight from the mature trees above in the orangery with stunning views to Grasse and the Pre-Alpes beyond. The terrace is lovely and well worth visiting just for an aperitif.

At Le Mas Candille the modern world is the touch of a button away, every comfort is attended to, and the stylish flair of both the traditionally decorated spaces and the more modern guest suites is crisp, lovely, and refined.
