Story by Ken Panton

We at eCityofTravel have always been great fans of Mexico's vacation destination. Puerto Vallarta is no exception, where great dining, shopping, water adventures, golfing, zip lines adventures, night life, and even a taste of traditional life in a Mexican fishing village all come together. There are a lot of choices in Puerto Vallarta for your stay, from B&B to full luxury resorts, and we recently had the opportunity to visit the Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta. Located on 21 tranquil acres dotted with swaying palm trees and fronted by 410 feet of private Pacific Ocean beach this resort just minutes from the international airport and charming downtown Puerto Vallarta.

The hotel is adorned with vibrant tropical colors and dressed with Mexican-style, elegant luxury throughout. In the 280 ocean-view rooms, all with a private balconies, the finishing touches are pure Westin brand signatures appointments. I stayed in the Grand Suite located on the top floor, and the stunning view from my room was just amazing.  In my Grand suite the first level’s living room is complete with a jet-set vibrantly colored ambience, ceiling fan, and floor-to-ceiling windows that invite you out onto the private balcony. Upstairs in this suite the welcoming king Heavenly Bed® was complemented by an elegant entertainment armoire, and individually selected accent pieces. To spoil me even further the second floor of my suite offered another ocean-view balcony with sun loungers for my relaxation. The rejuvenating Heavenly Bath® features double sinks and a vanity table, a tub, and separate shower with Westin’s signature dual showerhead, plus premium bath amenities and plush robes.

For a truly luxurious stay, book the Presidential Suite to enjoy the ocean-view balcony with its own plunge pool. The Presidential Suite also offers an extensive master suite with canopy bed and jacuzzi bath. You can also choose to entertain your friends in real style thanks to the en-suite kitchen and dining room. If a vacation from cooking is part of the plan, guests staying in the Grand Suite and Presidential Suite can enjoy the Royal Beach Club privileges for daily breakfast, evening cocktails, and other fabulous presentations. If you’re looking for great value, book the Deluxe room complete with a private balcony that faces the bay for partial or full ocean views.

Dining is something that this hotel does very well - a great way to end your day and start your night. Arrecifes is their open air-dining restaurant; El Palmar offers great à la Carte options throughout the day plus a buffet breakfast and delectable dinners. La Cascada serves a full selection of drinks and light snacks. My favorite hangout during my stay was the swim up bar at the Tlaquepaque pool, where I enjoyed some delicious sandwiches and tropical cocktails.

The resort has two fabulous outdoor pools along with a private stretch of beach, offering guests endless lounging opportunities.  Another treat to indulge in is one of the resort’s oceanfront spa massages that are both relaxing and invigorating. Guests can also choose to visit the serene spa indoors for head-to-toe pampering. I spent my mornings at the WestinWORKOUT® Gym located next to the outdoor tennis courts. Golf lovers: There are several golf courses nearby.
